Inside Looking Out(side Looking In)

2024

Inside Looking Out(side Looking In), explores the interplay of daydreams and observation. Windows and clouds are structures that invite imagination—familiar windows frame views that lead the mind to wander far-off places, and clouds prompt the mind to find a recognizable form in their ambiguity. The places I find my gaze drifting daily inspired the setting of the paintings in this show. They depict the reflected silhouette of a viewer present bodily but whose mind may be elsewhere. The cloud sculptures represent my imagined inner landscape, an accumulation of memories and fantasy. As an artist, both acts of observation and imagination are crucial to making art. The ability to see the world clearly and to dream up alternate realities is the fuel of creativity. I concretely represented these routine and intangible acts to reaffirm their importance to my life.
